Commodity Markets: Gold - Silver -Crude-Copper -Nickle

Commodity updates: 5-June-2012 

Gold and silver in the international market has seen strong growth. Comaks half per cent of the gold is trading at $ 1623 with strength. The silver is at $ 28 with a gain of about 1.5 per cent. Gold in the domestic market on Monday with a fall of half per cent to Rs 29 908, while silver closed at Rs 53 858 1.15 break.

BSE SENSEX and NIFTY traded in a volatile session on the very first day, recovered later in second half after a top official from weather department reported India’s monsoon rains may hit southern KERLA coast in two days, took SENSEX to close above 16,000 levels. However Reserve Bank of India’s deputy Governor Subir Gokaran said RBI has some possibilities to reduce policy rates also fuelled the fire to get recovered as banking stocks boosted. Bank Nifty took a smart recovery closed 3 percent up from its intraday low. JPASSOCIAT, L&T, and BANK OF BARODA led the rally while TATAPOWER, GAIL and JINDALSTEEL limited the gains.

COMMODITY UPDATE 4-June-2012

CRUDE OIL

Oil fell for a fifth day in New York to the lowest price in almost eight months on signs of an economic slowdown in the U.S. and China. London-traded Brent crude dropped from the lowest close in more than a year.

GOLD

Gold eased on Monday as a firmer tone to the dollar prompted some investors to cash in gains after the metal's biggest one-day rally in more than three years, but prices were underpinned by speculation the Federal Reserve could unveil a new round of monetary easing. 

SILVER

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in July fell by Rs 290, or 0.53 per cent, to Rs 54,193 per kg, with a business turnover of 1,877 lots.
Similarly, the metal for delivery in September lost Rs 298, or 0.53 per cent, to Rs 55,582 per kg, with a business turnover of 62 lots. 

COPPER

The metal for delivery in June declined by Rs 7.35, or 1.80 per cent, to Rs 400.25 per kg in 42,758 lots.
Market analysts attributed the fall in copper futures to a weakening global trend.

CURRENCY UPDATE 4-June-2012

DOLLAR

Strengthening of dollar against the euro, which plunged to a two-year low on continued euro-zone worries and strong month-end demand from importers, particularly oil refiners, mainly put pressure on the rupee.

EURO

The euro weakened versus the dollar as speculation Europe’s leaders will struggle to agree on how to resolve the sovereign debt crisis boosted concern global economic growth will stall.The 17-nation euro extended its six-week decline against the yen as pressure built on German Chancellor Angela Merkel to back additional measures such as joint debt issuance in the bloc.

GLOBAL MARKET UPDATE 4-June-2012

ASIAN STOCKS MARKET

Asian stocks fell, with every major benchmark gauge in the region retreating, as economic data in the U.S. and China stoked concern global growth is slowing. Japan’s Topix Index closed at the lowest level since 1983.

U.S.STOCK MARKET

The weakest U.S. hiring in 12 months erased the Dow Jones Industrial Average’s advance for 2012 and pushed valuations in the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index 19 percent below last year’s level. U.S. stock futures pared their decline, following a three-day slide for the benchmark Standard & Poor’s 500 Index.

EUROPEAN MARKET

European stocks fell for a fourth day as a report showed China’s services-industry growth weakened in May and investors awaited the outcome of French debt sales. U.S. index futures rose, while Asian shares dropped.

U.S.TREASURIES

Less than three months after rising yields foretold a bear market in Treasuries, bond market metrics show growing investor confidence that record-low borrowing costs will last for years. As yields on 10-year notes tumbled, dropping below 1.5 percent last week for the first time, investors who had sought protection from bond losses retreated, reducing the so-called payer skew in options on interest-rate swaps from a near one- year high. Money-market traders drove the yield on futures contracts that expire at the end of 2014 to record lows.

Gold in the international market - has seen a decline in silver.Comaks 0.30 per cent of the gold is trading at $ 1,617. The silver half per cent fall to 28 dollars per ounce. Last week, gold in the domestic market, with nearly half per cent to Rs 29 847, while silver was wanted to Rs 54 508.
Naimaks 1.30 per cent in the crude oil is trading with a strong decline, while prices have come on 82 dollars a barrel. Last week, a decline of 0.26 per cent in the domestic market with crude oil closed at Rs 4619.Copper on the London Metal Exchange is trading with weakness of the 1.25 per cent. Copper in the domestic market last week with the slow turnover was Rs 407.

BSE SENSEX and NIFTY traded in red and extended the fall for second consecutive session on FRIDAY after TECHNOLOGY and UTILITIES stocks took a heavy fall over the index. It’s been a rough starting for JUNE series as NIFTY fell by 84 points on the session as traded over weaker global sentiments. Reports over monsoon rains to be delayed by four days to Indian mainland dented the sentiments. Negative opening of European markets also fuelled the fire. However ASIAN PAINTS, CAIRNS and SIEMENS led the rally and took a heavy fall while ITC, GAIL and SUNPHARMA capped the losses.
